Demo Production – Progress I

Demo Reel

For my Demo Reel, I’ve chosen to go with an Environment. My subject of choice was Aerith’s Church from Final Fantasy VII.

It is my expectation that in recreating the scene, I will be able to showcase my understanding of Lighting and Texturing.

The scene itself is rather iconic in the series, so I wish to keep it recognizable, while still taking a few artistic liberties with it. Stylistically, I have always loved the choices Square Enix made with their games, and this was no exception. So when they decided to remake the series, I was curious how they would envision the elements- and they did not disappoint.

This week, after blocking out the layout of the walls, I added in some smaller elements- the pillars, beams, windows, the altar and arches.

For now, I’ve stuck to placeholder textures to differentiate elements and added simple white lights so I can work with accurate colors while picking textures. Moving forward, I will be adding bevels to all the elements so they dont appear so sharp-edged and then start sculpting the props I wish to incorporate into the scene.
